When it comes to Hollywood power couples, for some reason, the iconic duo of Amy Adams and Christian Bale never seems to make the list. It might be because they're not romantic partners, but still!
The two have matched up at least three times to resounding acclaim on the big screen, even though Amy Adams obviously deserves an Oscar on her own, regardless. But clearly, there's more to Amy and Christian's story than serendipitous casting.
Then again, the two of them winding up in three films together over the years likely wasn't a mistake. IMDb called them an 'Oscar power couple' in 2019 when their third film as co-stars, 'Vice,' was nominated for the award. Casting directors evidently picked up on the amount of potential the two have to draw audiences and accolades.
But their relationship goes beyond the movie set. In quite possibly the best example of Amy Adams and Christian Bale's relationship, The Guardian recounted a time that may have been a low point in Adams' career. The publication recounted that the 2014 hack at Sony revealed how much Amy and her co-star Jennifer Lawrence had earned for 'American Hustle.' The sad fact was, the female leads earned less than the guys.
But Christian Bale was in the film with Amy and Jennifer, and he "got in [the director's] face and told him to stop acting like a [jerk]." Of course, Bale used stronger language than that, and he got the point across: there's no reason to treat Amy, or any actress, or any woman, like they're less than their male counterparts.
Especially, as The Guardian noted, when the actress in question has had such an impressive and varied career, one which only rivals that of stars like Meryl Streep (who Amy has also co-starred with in three projects).
Anyway, while there's never been anything romantic between the two off-screen (although Christian has admitted to a crush on another leading lady in Hollywood), their friendship is totally #goals.
Uncovering more specific details about their friendship isn't necessarily easy, though. Amy, for one, is very private about her personal life, instead preferring to stay anonymous while off the set, she told The Guardian.
Bale, of course, was happy to stand up for his friend and co-star when needed, but he's another celebrity that doesn't seem to enjoy being in the spotlight when the cameras aren't rolling.
Suffice it to say, the two celebs probably hang out more behind the scenes than step out in Hollywood. At least, when they're not sashaying down a red carpet thanks to yet another Oscar nomination.
